Osborne House, Isle of Wight
You may be surprised to learn it is in England.

It’s been a while since I shared a clock so thought I’d make up for it today with a rather splendid clock tower and glorious blue sky. Have you guessed where it is? A clue – in September I shared with you a little bit of pink from the gardens.

Still pondering? Well this belvedere tower is one of two attached to what was once a royal home. It was built in the 19th century by Thomas Cubitt, a London builder and architect. The home isn’t in London though, and Mr Cubitt wasn’t the lead designer. This Italian renaissance style was the creation of Prince Albert, who thought the location reminded him of Naples and so wanted a building to match. The home they created became Queen Victoria’s much loved rural retreat on the Isle of Wight. You’ve guessed it; this is Osborne House. It is also going to be my last clock face for the #timesquare challenge, as for our final week I have all sorts timed!

  18. One very pretty clock tower and another that I must have seen! Lovely blue sky to accompany it unlike ours today, again! Soooo tired of all this wind and rain. Too unpleasant to go for a walk of any kind let alone a beach walk.

      1. Cloudy and damp. I have just spent 15 minutes putting dishes out in the ‘wetroom’ to try and catch the drips that are soaking through the new ceiling. I fear the plaster is going to disintegrate any time soon. It’s a complete nightmare! And until the rain stops there is nothing anyone can do about it.

      2. Oh no. Doesn’t even sound like a wet room now, sounds like a room of horrors. Wish I could help, or at least whisk you away from it for a bit. Really hope the drain stops over Christmas and they can magically sort it for you quickly over the new year xxxx

    1. hee hee, thought you might think that. And do go . . .so much to see and photograph both in the house and grounds.

      If you travel by public transport it is less than 2miles from the Red Jet terminal, and you get to travel on the floating bridge! Alternatively it is less than a minute drive from the Red Funnel terminal if you bring the car and go for a Solent sailing 🙂

  25. Very grand! 🙂 🙂 I met a lovely man who does t’ai chi at the winter solstice party so I spent an hour with them in the little water park in Tavira yesterday morning. And then a lazy stroll to Barril. I never tire of watching sunlight on the water. I expect there’ll be lots of that in Hartlepool. 🙂 Have a lovely Christmas!
