I am a blogger and host of Squares. The website address is https://beckybofwinchester.com, and this blog is hosted by WordPress.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
When visitors leave comments on the site we will usually reply to that comment, and may also visit your website. We may also visit your website if you follow.
If you take part in Squares by leaving a pingback we will record the name of your website in a secure off line spreadsheet to facilitate the production of the Square Galleries.
Whilst we don’t record your url, your name, email or any other information off line, the website does need to capture some of this information to function. See below for more information.
What personal data does the website collect and why
When visitors leave comments on the site WordPress records those comments and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you vote in any polls the website may send your browser cookies. Details as follows;
- Using a CAPTCHA will set a cookie on your browser by Google who run the CAPTCHA service. The cookie is set after the CAPTCHA is answered.
- Email protection sets two cookies, PD_poll_X_Y where X is the poll_id above and Y is a version number incremented when the poll results are reset. The age of the vote is recorded here. PD_REQ_AUTH associates the answer with the poll.
- When multiple answers are blocked by cookie then a cookie called PD_poll_X (X is the poll ID) is set after the user votes.
When you log in to WordPress to leave comments, they will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
Analytics – Who WordPress share your data with and How long they retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely by WordPress. This is so WordPress can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on WordPress, they also store the personal information the users provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators, ie BeckyB, can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data & does it go any where
If you have an account with WordPress, or have left comments on a WordPress site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we and they hold about you, including any data you have provided via this website or directly to them. You can also request that they erase any personal data they hold about you. This does not include any data they are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
We do not share your personal information with anyone. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
