I wonder if Kew had George Nakashima’s quote in mind when they planned their tree top walk. It is rather wonderful to be up in the tree tops, although when I enjoyed the adventure back in 2017 I was rather disappointed that you didn’t actually walk amongst the branches. I guess though they had no choice but to keep them slightly out of reach.

The treetop walkway at Kew Gardens is 18 metres above ground, and flexes slightly in the wind. If you are feeling brave and the walkway is open, you have the choice of either climbing the 118 steps up to the top or hopping aboard the lift. We did steps both ways, well Mum, myself and brother did. My sister for some reason caught the lift down!
By the way we have passed the halfway point of July Squares. Where is the month going? If you have not yet taken part then you two weeks left to square your trees. We’d love it if you did join us. To join us create your square post and include a pingback to any of my daily square posts in July. Don’t forget to also use the theme’s tag – TreeSquare. Tags help everyone find you in the reader and they also help me enormously when preparing the galleries. So please do use them. The most important thing though to remember is that your photograph must be square in shape, well at least one of them anyway!

How lovely. The tree walk wasn’t open when we visited recently. Covid and Social Distancing and all that. But I’m taking you to the seaside today: https://margaret21.com/2021/07/17/a-history-of-a-holiday-in-fifteen-trees-two/

yes Debbie and Sue said the same about it not being open, although unfortunately Sue probably wouldn’t have got up there anyway because it is not fully accessible – grrr!!

Best done with family who are happy to go slow whilst you take photos, I got very frustrated with my siblings who seemed to be on roller skates!!

actually we were there on a day as hot as this, and it surprisingly wasn’t too bad up there. Kind of caught the breeze

Alas I have not been on that tree walk! Anyway, it’s a step back to a past Autumn for me: https://suejudd.com/2021/07/17/tree-square-17/

I have thoroughly enjoyed the virtual rooftop walk with you, Becky. It has been closed for ages as it’s too difficult to socially separate. I’m hoping it will reopen soon but for now I’ll wander round your images again.

So glad you enjoyed it up there, fingers crossed you’ll be able to do it again soon in person

I love Kew Gardens but haven’t done this tree top walk Becky. I’m not a huge fan of heights but usually try to push myself to do these sorts of things when the opportunity arises.
I’m back today with some cooling snow shots https://debs-world.com/2021/07/17/it-doesnt-snow-all-that-often-here-but-when-it-does-we-capture-the-moment-treesquare/

It’s a wonderful addition to Kew, isn’t it? Wish it had been around when I was there. Back in the Dark Ages!

maybe it could be added to your to do list for those rare forays back to this country!

That list is almost longer than my to do list here! Have you seen the fires up north? Looks dreadful again.

I hadn’t seen that, not good news. Every part of the world seems to be suffering this year, climate change is truly upon us 😞

A nice bird’s eye view there, Becky. Does the walkway go all around the gardens, or is it just one section? Just curious! I have another chilled scene today:

Just one small section – Kew is enormous, around 300 acres, so not sure they could manage the whole way round. Although wouldn’t that be cool if they did!

I see! It would allow for a better view of things, I suppose, although it probably wouldn’t be as ‘special’ if it went around the whole way.

Beautiful walkway and I bet the view is amazing from up there.

We love these canopy walks and have done several in different countries. Kew Gardens have long been on my list to visit next time we’re in London, whenever that may by.
