I have so many trees to call upon for this month’s Squares Challenge, that it was almost impossible to decide which one to start with. However this one kept catching my eye in the folder. I think because I wanted to get across early on that it doesn’t matter if the whole tree isn’t in the shot!

Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow.
The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.

I can’t wait to see what your first #TreeSquare will be. To join us create your square post and include a pingback to any of my daily square posts in July. Don’t forget to also use the theme’s tag – TreeSquare. Tags can help everyone find you in the reader and they also help me enormously when preparing the galleries. So if you can please do use them.

You can learn more about how to participate by clicking on the logo below. Or if you already know what to do but have not yet planned your month of squares here are a few ideas to get you started.

  • Trees can be centre square or hidden in the background
  • You could focus on one tree and share a different part of the same tree or its shadow each day
  • Alternatively start with one tree and then increase the number of trees in your squares day by day until your final square with thirty one trees
  • Or if you have lots of tree photographs why not attempt to square a different species every day
  • It is totally up to you how you include trees in your July squares. In fact you can even ignore Lincoln’s quote and share fake trees!

If a daily tree square sounds daunting, it is also okay to join weekly or even just pop in occasionally with your trees. The frequency and content of your squares entirely depends on you and your blog, and feel free to link up with other challenges.

For example today your tree could also be shared in black and white, and that way you can link up with my lovely friend, Cee, and her ‘Black and White Photo Challenge‘. As amazingly (we really didn’t plan this!) from today until next Wednesday Cee is also looking for trees or parts of a tree such as their leaves, branches, stump, or even bark.

Whilst Cee’s black and white trees can be in any shape, remember mine must be Squares. It is an absolute rule of the Squares challenge that your photograph is square in shape. It is the only rule, although I must admit I’d love it if you left a comment too, conversations make the challenge so much fun.

Ooh one final thing! Pingbacks do need to be approved, and as July is a very busy month for me work wise there could be a delay before your link appears in the comments. I will visit every pingback/link and leave a comment, so if I have not commented on your #TreeSquare within 48 hours of you posting check your spam folder. If I am not there let me know as it means the WP gremlins may have hidden your link from me.

  1. At last I found your post which is 24 hours late. I think that is the time zone having its way with us. My guess is, like last time, I’ll be one day late for everything. Meanwhile, the heat broke today and I could turn off the A/C and open windows and doors. It’s raining again. I’m actually happy about the rain, even if it does make burning food on the barbecue rather tricky.

  2. I love the shadow of the tree. You have such clever ideas Becky. No wonder people love your challenges. They are like a puzzle and expand our thinking. You’ve seen it already, but here is my Day One post. https://alwayswrite.blog/2021/07/01/becky-bs-squares-trees-at-home/

I’m going to do myself a favor this time and link the post from the day before so I don’t have to get up at 2:00 am to catch your newest post to link to. I hope that doesn’t make it too inconvenient for you. πŸ™‚

By the way, I’ve never taken the time to look through all your blogging posts before, but your portraits of birds are amazing. They might as well be in a studio posing for you and paying a premium for their portrait. I love the black and white one who is twisted up biting himself. πŸ™‚

    1. ooh cunning plan on your part about linking, and absolutely fine. I will always find you as long as you link to a post so free free to link to same one every time if that’s easier for you, and I will make sure through galleries that everyone always finds you

    1. Hi thanks for the lovely feedback. I’d be delighted if you joined us – unfortunately though the link hasn’t worked. Are you able to send it to me again, and I can this one

  3. WordPress has gremlins? What??? πŸ™‚ I like your tree shadow and you could attach that one to Thursday Doors too because there’s a nice door. πŸ™‚ I’ll be double-dipping as much as possible during the next month. I’m quite curious what the next color/colour will be because to try to get “trees” and an unusual color in one photo could be a challenge. Isn’t life fun?

  4. I love the shadow. I am going to join in weekly if that’s OK. I have a kind of a theme going on. So my first gallery will be next Thursday.

    1. Of course weekly is fine πŸ™‚ had a feeling you might be less frequent this month as you have so many other things going on. Be a honour to have a weekly collection πŸ˜€
