Talk about taking the phrase literally. I love it though and wish I had thought of it.

You can use it too 😀 maybe for what the phrase means?

These reminded me of Mama’s button bag, though most of hers were not quite as fancy.

Yes not sure I ever had once this fancy either!

I remember playing with the button box and it’s contents when I was a kid – not sure if it was Mum’s or Granny’s – possibly both. I still have a button box, but no idea why! I don’t play with it anymore.

What a splendid collection. As others have said, back in the day, mum and/or grandma, had a tin or a jar full of them. One NEVER threw away a button! Here’s mine today: https://grahamsisland.com/2021/04/07/rainbow-yellow/

I miss button tins!

I’ll bet we all will (or will eventually) “inherit” a jar or tin full of buttons, saved for years by a mom or grandma or unknown relative either female or male. There is something about buttons….a story, perhaps, behind each one. Your collection is quite intriguing. I happily got out from under my not so bright day-to-day “stuff” to post a bright square today. 🙂

I wish these were my own collection, they are however on a display in a museum in Birmingham which was once the centre of pearl button making!

Oh, wow! That would be a fun display to see.
