A few weeks ago I couldn’t resist capturing the sunlight as it played on the sitting room wall. Not the best of photographs but it kindled my imagination. It also serves as a great reminder that next week all and any kinds of photographic captures are allowed in October. It is after all a month of benevolent squares!

I know this photograph isn’t square, however I am hoping you might take kindly to it as we are still in September!

I am still caught up with festival admin this week, but this weekend I intend to catch up with all of you, and can’t wait to discover what you have been up to and photographing these past few weeks. I must also set aside some time to prepare my squares for October. I am so behind! How are you getting on? If you haven’t yet begun, here are some suggestions for how you might interpret the theme;

  • Something of the kind (mirror images, carbon copies and doubles)
  • Our imagination kindled (inspire us!)
  • Of its kind (a unique object or could be a picture of nature and wildlife)
  • Kindred spirits (kindness in action or photographs of people)
  • Take kindly to (something you like such as my Warbler on Sunday or Ellie’s cheese)

My sunlit rectangle is a kind of carbon copy of what was outside, so if it had been suitable cropping into square it would have appeared in October as ‘Something of the Kind’!

    1. Tell me about it – I have only just finished collating, which means when I come to schedule them all I will be changing my mind and needing to find more!

  1. I’m into very serious photo mode right now. It’s incredibly beautiful outside and although we haven’t had so much as a drizzle of rain in more than a month, the trees are gold and orange and yellow and ochre. The sunshine has that amber cast that only autumn seems to bring. I don’t have time to write! By the time I get through taking pictures, downloading them, sorting them, and processing a few (I wish i were faster at doing this …), it’s late in the evening and I barely have time to throw together any kind of piece for the next day. Until the autumn has had its run, this is how I think it will be. Brain will return in a couple of weeks — or sooner, depending on the weather. But oh my, it is SO beautiful right now!

    1. Oh you’re so fortunate to have the autumn colours. Doesn’t look like we’re going to have them this year.

      I’d enjoy getting out whilst you can. Sorting photographs and writing can wait until November days when you’re indoors!!

  2. I love seeing shadows on the wall too. I’m thinking I’m going to go with Queensland – One of a Kind and continue with my landscape series. We’ve been away a couple of times so I have some new images to use.

  3. Well, this is going to be fun. It is going to be a real “think outside the box” kind of challenge…See what I did there? Looking forward to cooler weather. The summer has been brutal and hurricane season has been terrible. We are lucky that so far, none have headed this way, but its not over….and Portugal got Alpha on my birthday. I was thinking of you even though I wasn’t sure if you were there or not. What a crazy year 2020 is turning out to be! How are you doing?

      1. That is so good to hear that you are doing well. Too bad about Portugal. I know that must be really heartbreaking. We didn’t make to the west coast of the US either. Glad we didn’t or we wouldn’t have been there with all the smoke and air quality issues from all the fires. Guess there is a silver lining here. 🙂

      2. Yeah, it’s pretty bad! Another fire ignited in California yesterday and now they have more evacuations and homes are at risk. 2020 needs to be finished! Hope next year life gets better. Until then, we can promote goodwill and happier times! 🙂

  4. I’m just catching up with you and everyone else, since I had to evacuate a couple of weeks ago. Your square challenges are always fun. I will have to put my thinking cap on.

  5. This seems more of a hard challenge compared to the last one, but I’m sure we’ll get there. And the world does need all the kindness it can get. Having said that, does ‘kinda square’ leave some leeway not to be exactly square…?
