Whilst I cannot easily pronounce my flower of the day‘s scientific name, sisyrinchium striatum, I prefer the Latin to its common name pale yellow-eyed grass. It does have another common name, yellow Mexican satin flower, but I am not too keen on that either! I am loving though what Debbie and her daughter have come up with for their Six Word Saturday.

  1. I like this little tower of a plant. Weirdly, I find the Latin comfortable to pronounce. I like the sound, and the fact that there is no right and wrong way to say it! My attempts to pronounce French, in comparison, have always gone awry. Latin often seems easier to spell than English too.

    1. I’ve been trying to discover what they call it in Chile and Argentina, without success so far as everything keeps coming up with the English
