Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge

My entry for week 43 of Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge is a bit more decorative.

a tap

This tap is part of a Nora – a Portuguese water system you will see throughout the Iberian peninsular

Most NorasThe complete nora in the east Algarve are like this one, abandoned now but you will still see a few in working order. They though use electricity or humans rather than a mule to turn the wheel. The wheel has a chain to which pottery or metal containers are attached. As the wheel is turned the containers drop into the well and then return with water. The containers tilt as they get to the top of the wheel, and the water is poured into an aqueduct or trough. This tap is coming out of the trough.
