Finally a beautiful morning here in Pittsburgh (yes that’s where I am!) and so we decided to stroll in the lovely Schenley Park.
It is only a few minutes walk from where we are staying but feels like you have delved into darkest deepest Pennsylvania. Well apart from the many bridges that is!
Schenley Park was created in 1889 following a donation by Mary Schenley, a locally born heiress who was living in London at the time of the donation. It once had a race horse track but these days you are more likely to find human runners than horses.

Today as we strolled down into Panther Hollow the joggers were outnumbered by the squirrels and chipmunks.
It was a quietish morning in the park, not silent though as the crickets and Stellar Jays were making quite a racket! I didn’t manage to take any photographs of them but was delighted to spot and photograph Woodpeckers, American Robins, Doves and even a Groundhog in the undergrowth.
Our stroll today was inspired by Restless Jo and her Monday Walks.
popped in from Jo’s site to enjoy this stroll with you in another park (parks are popular this week 🙂 ). Lucky you to get the shots of the woodpecker and the groundhog! And I see that autumnal colours are just beginning. Should be marvellous there in a few weeks time.

What a beautiful post!
So many wonderful pictures. I don’t know what the difference between chipmunks and squirrels is!
I feel your theme has undergone a colorful change 🙂
Love and light ❤

Thank you. Chipmunks are the size of mice and squirrels are size of rats. Chipmunks mostly on ground but squirrels as much time in trees as they do the ground. I’ve only seen chipmunks in North America.

Fabulous! I know Meg will really enjoy this, and Jude too. Do you have family there? Not an everyday destination? Thanks so much for linking to mine. Yours might be our first trip to Pittsburgh (but I couldn’t swear to that 🙂 )

Yes we have family! Well worth visiting though – really lovely city with lots of galleries, museums and parks. Plus lots of boats as two rivers merge to become the Ohio – you’d love it!

I just got back from visiting family in Scotland and was feeling the slight out of step feeling you get as an expat when you come back to your other home. Schenley Park is one of my go to places in Pittsburgh when I need to relax, I haven’t had time yet to go but your pictures where great to look at and I plan to go there this weekend. Timely post for me…Thanks

We like you love the park – a must go on every visit and we’ve been coming here 20 odd years!
